Space Invading and potatoe talkjuin 11, 2009
You know the feeling to discover something that apparently everyone knew about but you? Well, I kinda hate it. All of the sudden, it makes me feel quite « out ».
Of course that happens only if the think in question is really cool, because if it’s trash, I can feel quite proud not to know it, actually. (« What, a new Mc Donald’s sandwich? Nop… never heard of it. », « The last Britney hit? Britney who? »)
But yeah, my friends told me about this Space Invading website, that presents all king of architecture projects almost as soon as they are ready.
It’s almost like ArchDAily, but in a less selective way. They present everything they discover, period. Interesting though. And sometimes, just like here in the blog, they switch from architecture to Design of plastic Arts, and the results are quite pleasing.
Here I chose a project from the libanese artist Ginou Choueiri that paints potatoe heads, literally.
About his work: « I chose the potato to portray human faces because of the many striking parallels. Not only is their skin porous like ours, but their skin texture and color is very similar, and like us, they come in different sizes, shapes and forms. Potatoes grow, live, and then decay, mirroring the ephemeral existence and fragility of our own human nature ». » Potato heads grow, sprout, age, then decay… but they refuse to go without a trace. »
